South Main Closing Nears in Montpelier as Meridian Seeks More Time

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Montpelier Redevelopment Commission meeting on October 12, 2026

A long-running South Main redevelopment deal in Montpelier moved closer to closing Monday, while a separate downtown property remained in limbo.

Officials said they finally received the survey needed for 121 South Main and expect to close soon. Earlier coverage traced that property back to the commission's May approval to buy the storefront for $15,000. Officials said closing would let the city keep moving work tied to neighboring properties including 117 and 123 South Main.

In the same discussion, officials said they had been ready to move on from Meridian Health Services as a possible tenant or user for 125 South Main because of the organization's Medicaid-related troubles. They said Meridian then asked the city to wait until December because it remains interested.

That leaves one downtown project nearing a concrete step while another remains a waiting game.
