About The Blackford Ledger
The Blackford Ledger is an independent digital newspaper serving Blackford County, Indiana — Hartford City, Montpelier, and the townships in between. We cover the places where local decisions actually get made: county commissioner and council meetings, city councils, school boards, drainage boards, and the courthouse.
What we cover
Our beat is local government and community life: public meetings, budgets and appropriations, public safety, schools, elections, local business, and community events. Our Government Hub tracks every vote our local boards take, and every elected official has a public profile showing their voting record.
Why we exist
Blackford County, like many rural Indiana communities, has seen traditional local news coverage shrink for decades. The Ledger exists to make sure residents can always find out what their local government did, in plain language, for free.
How we work
Much of our meeting coverage starts from official public records — recordings, agendas, and minutes published by the government bodies themselves. Every summary names its source, and our Editorial Policy explains how these reports are produced, reviewed, and corrected.
