Montpelier Home Improvement Grants: 14 Applications Under Review, New Round Opens

Two grant programs are offering Montpelier homeowners funding for exterior improvements, with a combined potential of approximately $110,000 between the two grants.

Housing Preservation Grant: The current round has received 14 applications. A review committee is evaluating eligibility and will fund as many as possible with the approximately $70,000 available — roughly $10,000 per home. The 2026 round is now open with applications due September 8, 2026. The city is applying for $40,000 in this new cycle, less than last year because the state received less federal money. Awards will be announced in October.

PACER Grants: The city-run PACER program has awarded $78,313 in grants against $178,320 in total project costs. Funds remain available. RDC members discussed outreach challenges — many residents don't know about the program despite social media posts and door-to-door flyer distribution. One suggestion was to include PACER information with water bills.

Both programs fund exterior appearance improvements such as siding, windows, landscaping, and sidewalks. Roofs are not currently eligible, though RDC members discussed the possibility of adding them given the number of homes with visible roof damage.
