Montpelier Housing Preservation Grant Draws 12 Applications — Committee Deciding After July 15

From the Montpelier Redevelopment Commission meeting on July 6, 2026

The Montpelier housing preservation grant program has received 12 applications — far outpacing a comparable program in Ohio where Dave Kieser received only two. The $70,000 in current funding will be spent on as many houses as possible. A selection committee was set to meet after July 15 to decide which applications to fund.

Applicants not funded in this round will be rolled into the next application, which Kieser plans to submit for $100,000. Indiana receives only two to three applications per year for this program, which Kieser sees as favorable odds.

The program is part of a five-year housing study, and Kieser plans to apply every year. Residents funded in the first round can reapply in the second round for different improvements — for example, a homeowner funded for a roof could later apply for windows.
