Montpelier's Redevelopment Commission approved new Baldwin Park contract actions Monday after a rebid sharply lowered the shelter-house portion of the project, but officials also said the park now likely will not open until spring.

Commission members said the original shelter-house bid was about $317,000. The rebid from Meyer Building came in at $210,460, a drop of about $107,000. The commission also approved a site-work package for Exact Exterior Services, though the transcript gives conflicting figures for that contract amount and does not clearly settle on one exact number.

After approving the bids, the commission took a second vote authorizing the mayor to sign the Baldwin Park contracts. Earlier coverage traced this project from design and bidding through a $300,000 donation from the Blackford County Community Foundation.

Even with the lower shelter-house price, officials said site-work delays now have playground installation running later than expected. They said Baldwin Park is headed toward a late-fall-to-spring completion window, with a spring opening looking most likely.
