Baldwin Park Plans Complete — Kevin Ford Aerospace Pavilion Heading to Bid in Montpelier

Plans for Baldwin Park and the Kevin Ford Aerospace Pavilion are complete and heading to bid. The project is split into two divisions: Division A covers the shelter house (Kevin Ford Aerospace Pavilion) and restaurant, while Division B covers all site work including the playground area.

Both sets of plans were submitted to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources for review approximately two weeks ago. The pavilion restrooms were submitted to the Indiana Department of Homeland Security Fire and Building Safety around June 4. State review is expected within one to two weeks, with the goal of getting both divisions out for bid before the end of June.

The pavilion will feature an 8-by-20-foot mural by Pamela Bliss depicting Kevin Ford's journey from Montpelier to the International Space Station. A kiosk will display Ford's personal videos from space, and a walkway around the park will include educational stations about the ISS and space program. The playground will include a three-story slide with 25 stations on artificial turf.

Budget pressures forced elimination of new swing sets and a splash pad from the original plans. The ribbon cutting will be scheduled around Kevin Ford's availability.
