Wind Farm Crane Fatality Victim Identified as Hunter Torpey, 22

The victim of the July 10 crane fatality at a Blackford County wind turbine construction site has been identified as Hunter Torpey, 22, of Michigan.
Torpey was employed by White Construction. Crews were extending the crane's jib arm at approximately 11 a.m. on July 10 when the roughly 3,000-pound component came down on top of him. He suffered fatal blunt force trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) investigation is ongoing, now in its 32nd day. No citations or preliminary findings have been publicly released. White Construction has not issued a public statement regarding the incident.
The fatality occurred at the Prairie Creek Wind project construction site. It is not known whether construction has continued at other turbine locations on the project.
