The victim of the June 12 shooting on East Brice Street in Montpelier has been identified as Paul Wimmer, 46, of Montpelier.

Vincent Wesley, 28, of Dunkirk, has been charged in Blackford Circuit Court with attempted murder (Level 1 felony, up to 40 years), aggravated battery (Level 3 felony, up to 16 years), and criminal recklessness (Level 5 felony, up to 6 years). A jury trial is scheduled for February 9, 2027.

According to court documents obtained by the Muncie Star Press, Wimmer sustained three gunshot entrance wounds to the abdomen, three exit wounds in the back, and a gunshot wound to his left hand. He was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital. Wimmer left the hospital the following day, telling police he intended to seek treatment at an Indianapolis facility.

An affidavit states Wesley and Wimmer have relatives in common. A family member told police Wesley had made allegations of child abuse in years past and "hated" the victim. A witness reported Wesley waited outside Wimmer's home for up to three hours before the shooting and continued firing after Wimmer fell to the ground.

Wesley is being held without bond in the Blackford County Jail.

The Ledger has been covering this case since the initial shooting, and court documents recently revealed additional details about the events leading up to the incident.
