By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

Court documents filed in Blackford County reveal new details about the shooting on East Brice Street in Montpelier that left a 46-year-old man hospitalized. Vincent Wesley, 28, of Dunkirk, has been formally charged with three felonies: attempted murder (Level 1 felony), aggravated battery (Level 3 felony), and criminal recklessness (Level 5 felony).

According to court records, Wesley arrived at the victim's residence in a white Dodge Charger and waited outside for approximately three hours, pacing around the property, before the victim returned home. When the victim exited his truck, the two spoke briefly before Wesley allegedly shot him. Witnesses reported hearing four to five gunshots, and the victim sustained three gunshot wounds near his abdomen. Neighbors applied pressure to his wounds until first responders arrived. The victim survived and was airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital.

Wesley fled the scene and led officers on a pursuit through Blackford, Grant, and Delaware counties before being taken into custody on Wheeling Pike in Delaware County. During the pursuit, Wesley began a Facebook livestream in which he allegedly claimed he had killed the victim. He also called a family member after the shooting and said, "I just shot" the victim. Court records indicate the two were acquainted and had a prior altercation in May.

A jury trial is scheduled for February 9, 2027. Pretrial proceedings are expected to continue through the Blackford County court system in the coming months.
