Teachers' Contract Approved in Blackford County
From the Blackford County Schools Board meeting on October 27, 2026
Blackford County Schools' board unanimously approved its 2026-27 agreement with the Blackford Federation of Teachers on October 27, following unanimous approval by the union members who voted.
A federation representative reported that 52 members participated in the ratification vote and 100% approved the agreement. During the board discussion, the district corrected an agenda typo that had identified the contract year as 2027-28.
The approval completes a bargaining process that opened with a public hearing August 18. At an October 13 hearing, the district presented a tentative agreement proposing $1,400 raises for eligible returning teachers.
The district plans to apply teacher raises and any back pay tied to the agreement on the next full payroll cycle. Formal approval also allows the agreement to be submitted to the Department of Local Government Finance and related state offices by November 1.
