SRO Vehicle Purchase Advances in Blackford County
From the Blackford County Schools Board meeting on October 27, 2026
Blackford County Schools is preparing an agreement to buy a vehicle for its school resource officer and transfer ownership to Blackford County, with a purchase recommendation expected to come before the school board later.
Sheriff Heflin discussed the proposed arrangement at the October 19 county commissioners meeting. On October 27, the school district reported that a draft agreement had been circulated with help from county and school attorneys.
The superintendent said the vehicle would be reserved for the school resource officer, rather than used as a general pool car. The county would maintain it after taking ownership. School-themed markings are also under consideration.
The superintendent supported the request and expects to return with a specific vehicle recommendation and a proposal to use rainy day funds, the district's reserves.
The board did not approve a purchase October 27. No vehicle choice or purchase price was presented.
