A possible way to finance Lake Mohee dam repairs drew an immediate challenge during Blackford County Council’s October 14 discussion: the debt capacity might already be counted toward courthouse financing.

A speaker whose identity was not established suggested that a $1.95 million energy bond issued in 2018, described as expiring January 1, 2028, could make room for dam borrowing without increasing the existing taxpayer burden. Another participant questioned whether that capacity had already been incorporated into courthouse financing.

The disagreement was not resolved. No new bond or repayment schedule was adopted, and the proposal did not establish a tax-neutral outcome.

Commissioners had tabled the next dam-financing step October 5. The council discussion supplied a possible route, not secured financing.
