From the Blackford County Commissioners meeting on October 5, 2026

Blackford County commissioners tabled the next financing step for the Lake Mohee Dam project after hearing a fast borrowing schedule tied to a project estimate of about $4 million.

Shawn Kleinpeter of Kleinpeter Financial Group told the board the timeline could move quickly, with a first county council reading on Oct. 7, bids back by Nov. 16, Indiana Bond Bank consideration on Nov. 18, and a possible closing on Dec. 15. The estimate, he said, still tracked at about $4 million.

Paul Schriver said the current design would effectively replace the structure in a one-lane form rather than a two-lane version. He said the two-lane option would add about $3 million. Schriver also said the structure is still failing in dry weather and that leaving it alone keeps a known liability in place.

Commissioners said they wanted more information before moving ahead with more debt-related exposure, then voted to table the matter.
