Newberry Building: Coursing Contract Signed, 3D Scan Complete, IEDC Grant Still Pending
From the Hartford City Redevelopment Commission meeting on August 20, 2026
The Hartford City Redevelopment Commission reported three updates on the Newberry Building renovation at its August 20 meeting.
A coursing contract covering a full re-inspection of both the Newberry Building and the adjacent Daniels Building takes effect September 1, 2026. Commission member Ron Dudelston confirmed the contract covers the entire combined structure.
A full 3D laser scan of the building was completed the week of August 17. The imaging will produce a detailed model of the entire building for renovation planning, completed in advance of anticipated grant funding.
The commission is still awaiting a decision on an Indiana Economic Development Corporation "Ready" grant application. Economic Development Director Warren Brown said the state initially indicated a decision would come in August. "We're past the middle of August now," Brown said. "I would hope that we're at least 30 days from their decision. They often run late."
The grant decision will determine the timeline and scope of renovation work on the building.
