Hartford City READI Grant Application Resubmitted for Daniels and Newberry Buildings

By Derek Wheeler The Blackford Ledger

From the Hartford City Redevelopment Commission meeting on May 14, 2026

Hartford City's READI grant application for the Daniels and Newberry buildings has been resubmitted after the state requested budget revisions, economic development advisor Warren Brown reported to the Redevelopment Commission.

READI — the Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative — funds regional economic development projects through the state. The regional group has already approved Hartford City's project, and Brown said work could begin within a week of the state's announcement.

Brown also told the commission could utilize "broad bucks" but likely require a one-to-one local match. He urged the commission to begin thinking countywide about shovel-ready projects that could be positioned for that funding.
