Montpelier Launches Backflow Prevention Program for Businesses
From the Montpelier Board of Works & Safety meeting on July 15, 2026
Water Superintendent Chase Perry reported that the backflow prevention program he proposed last month has been implemented. Perry wrote up documentation and sent notices to all businesses informing them that their backflow prevention devices — which keep contaminated water from flowing back into the public supply — need to be inspected annually, as recommended by IDEM.
Montpelier has never had such a program. Perry said he is taking a cooperative approach: "I see no reason in going in and impeding on their businesses and pointing the finger," hoping for voluntary compliance.
