Montpelier Establishes Backflow Prevention Program
From the Montpelier Board of Works meeting on June 9, 2026
Water Superintendent Chase Perry is establishing a formal backflow prevention program in response to repeated IDEM inspection requests. Rather than conducting intrusive business inspections, Perry plans to send annual reminders to businesses about the requirement for certified backflow testing. Some businesses already submit testing results routinely, while others have lapsed over ownership changes.
Perry also reported the Consumer Confidence Report (CCR) — an annual water quality report required by federal law — is being prepared for the city website and inclusion in water bills. A follow-up form to IDEM will document how the city communicated results to the community.
Separately, the clear well at the water plant is being cleaned and resealed.
