Montpelier Adopts Hazard Plan Resolution After County Plan Lapsed

From the Montpelier Common Council meeting on October 12, 2026

Montpelier approved Resolution 26-10 on Monday, adopting Blackford County's multi-Hazard Mitigation Plan after county officials previously said the old plan had lapsed.

In May, the county's Emergency Management Agency was still seeking public input as part of the mitigation-plan process. By Sept. 15, EMA told Montpelier's council that local adoption was needed to restore eligibility for certain mitigation funding.

Mayor Brad Neff said he had emailed the plan to council members, noted that some minor issues had been pointed out, and said the document could still be changed later if errors were found. The council then voted to approve the resolution.

That appears to give Montpelier the local sign-off county officials had been seeking.
