A request for legal review of Lake Mohee dam responsibility preceded any repair funding decision during Blackford County Council’s October 14 discussion of a roughly $2.2 million engineering estimate.

Engineering was described as complete and ready for bidding, but financing was not in place. No construction contract or borrowing resolution was approved.

The discussion followed an October 5 commissioners meeting at which the next financing step was tabled after a presentation tied to a project estimate of about $4 million. The October 14 discussion did not establish why the estimates differed.

One speaker, whose identity was not established, said old documents showed county ownership. Another questioned the drainage board’s claimed responsibility and requested legal review of a 1972 petition and a 1986 action. The discussion acknowledged that review should occur.

The county’s legal responsibility remained unresolved. The $2.2 million figure was an estimate discussed at the meeting, not a bid or an approved county expenditure.
