Jay County governing bodies committed $650,000 in new funding to the $1.225 million recycling building project, signaling the regional facility is moving forward after Dunkirk approved its own $20,000 contribution on May 11.

The Jay County Council approved $300,000 for the project, and the Jay County Redevelopment Commission approved $350,000, according to reports published May 14 by The Commercial Review. Both actions occurred the same day.

Dunkirk is a participating jurisdiction in the Jay County Solid Waste District, and city residents use the recycling facility. The Dunkirk City Council voted to contribute $20,000 from its economic development fund at its May 11 meeting. The bid award deadline for the project is the end of May.

The substantial county investment alongside Dunkirk's contribution means the recycling facility project appears on track to advance, maintaining recycling services that Dunkirk residents depend on.
