Blackford County Schools adopted a resolution supporting the Blackford County Hazard Mitigation Plan by a 5–0 vote October 13, without committing money for equipment purchases.

Superintendent Yencer said participation commits the district to joint planning and supports eligibility for possible future emergency and mitigation funding. Mitigation means work intended to reduce harm from hazards.

The county sought residents’ input in May as part of the planning process. Yencer described the resulting plan as 212 pages, with work coordinated by Emergency Management Agency Director Withers and meetings involving county and surrounding agencies.

School discussion covered possible elementary-school generators, radios and family hazard information. Transportation bottlenecks near the high school were also raised.

The resolution did not buy generators or radios, award a grant or change the county’s disaster status. Any equipment purchases would require further action.
