RDC Awards $3,800 Fire Safety Contract for Newberry and Daniels Buildings

From the Hartford City Redevelopment Commission meeting on July 9, 2026

The Hartford City Redevelopment Commission voted 3-0 to approve a fire safety contract with Koorsen Fire & Security covering both the Newberry Building and the Daniels Building.

The contract has a ceiling of $3,800 and covers fire extinguishers, sprinkler system monitoring, and safety compliance for both buildings. RDC President Dudelston said the final cost would likely be less than the ceiling but wanted room to negotiate. The contract is subject to review by legal counsel.

Koorsen replaces Thompson Fire, the current fire safety provider for the Newberry Building. Thompson Fire had an outstanding $276 invoice that was incorrectly billed to "Blackford County Redevelopment Commission" instead of "Hartford City Redevelopment Commission." That invoice will be paid after the billing is corrected. Building coordinator Meagan Westfall will have direct access to Koorsen going forward.

The move consolidates fire safety services for both RDC-managed buildings under one vendor. Commissioners Dudelston, Whatley, and Eckstein voted in favor.
