Dunkirk Selling Two City-Owned 4th Street Lots via Sealed Bid — Minimum $500 Each
From the Dunkirk Board of Works and Council meetings on April 27, 2026
Dunkirk is selling two city-owned properties on 4th Street through sealed bids, with a minimum price of $500 per lot. The Board of Works approved the terms and the council passed Resolution 2026-5 authorizing the sale.
One property had a trailer removed by the city in 2012–2013 and has been mowed by the city since. The other is a wooded lot next to the city right-of-way. A neighboring property owner who owns both sides of the street is expected to be the primary bidder.
Sealed bids will be accepted April 30 through May 11 at the city building until 4:00 PM each day. Bids will be opened at the May 11 council meeting. City Attorney Wes noted the law no longer requires newspaper publication for the notice, saving the city advertising costs. The notice will be posted on the city website instead.
After the sale, paperwork costs are estimated at $600–$700 per property. Selling the lots eliminates the city's ongoing mowing costs and returns the properties to the tax rolls.
The city has been working to sell other city-owned properties on 4th Street as part of its broader effort to return vacant lots to productive use.
