Dunkirk Pool Season Update: Lifeguard Staffing Thin, Opening Target Remains May 29
From the Dunkirk City Council meeting on April 27, 2026
Dunkirk has hired a pool manager and assistant manager for the 2026 season, but lifeguard staffing remains a concern with only three applications received so far.
Council member Donna reported that "we can open with three but it will be rough." A possible fourth application came in during the meeting. The kiddie pool needs a liner repair. Pool cleanup has started, with Brad beginning work after waiting for the water department to finish flushing hydrants.
The pool's opening target remains May 29, but the fire pumper truck breakdown complicates the timeline. The pumper truck was used to fill pools around town, and its pump locked up earlier that week.
Earlier coverage of pool season preparations detailed the hiring of the pool manager and assistant manager.
