Dunkirk Golf Cart Ordinance Tabled Again, Tied to Housing Development

From the Dunkirk City Council meeting on May 11, 2026

The Dunkirk City Council tabled the golf cart registration ordinance again. City attorney Dane recommended waiting until the city's housing development is further along, as new land acquisition could allow for a dedicated golf cart trail.

Golf carts cannot legally operate on state highways. The council does not want to create a registration requirement that residents cannot legally comply with, though a state trooper could enforce the state highway restriction. The city attorney suggested handling the golf cart ordinance, housing-related road and sidewalk changes, and trail planning all at once.
