Dunkirk Cuts Stormwater Fee in Half — From $120 to $60 Per Year

From the Dunkirk City Council meeting on June 22, 2026

Dunkirk residents will see their annual stormwater fee drop from $120 to $60 after the city council unanimously passed Ordinance 26-6, reducing the monthly charge from $10 to $5.

The stormwater fee was established several years ago to fund maintenance of the city's stormwater system, including flooding projects. City Attorney Wes explained the fee's history during a public hearing before the vote. No public comments were made.

However, residents should not expect immediate relief. Because the stormwater fee is assessed through property tax bills rather than water bills, the reduced rate will not take effect until the next billing cycle — expected in May 2027. Residents will continue paying the current $120 annual rate until then.
