Blackford County Schools Discusses Possible SRO Vehicle Purchase
From the Blackford County Schools Board meeting on September 15, 2026
Blackford County Schools opened discussion Tuesday about buying a vehicle for its school resource officer program, but the board did not take a vote.
During the meeting, district administration said the school system now contributes $25,000 a year toward its full-time school resource officer arrangement. The speaker said a fully equipped vehicle would likely cost between $55,000 and $65,000 and suggested rainy day funds as a possible source. A balance of a little more than $533,000 was mentioned for that fund.
The discussion centered on a possible purchase by the school district followed by a transfer to the sheriff's department through an intergovernmental agreement. Liability questions were raised if the district owned the vehicle before the transfer was completed.
No action was taken Tuesday, so the idea remains under discussion. If it returns for a future vote, it would create a school-to-county equipment transfer tied to the district's SRO program.
