The Blackford County Commissioners approved the transfer of a retired police canine to its handler in a 3-0 vote, pending legal review.
Chief Deputy Casey presented the item on behalf of Sheriff Heflin, whose department recently announced the dog's retirement. The paperwork had been sent to the county attorney for review, but no response had been received. A commissioner noted that handlers are generally not charged for retired canines.
