Blackford County Expenditures Topped Revenue by $306,000 in May

By Derek Wheeler The Blackford Ledger

From the Blackford County Council meeting on June 3, 2026

Blackford County spent more than double what it took in during May, County Auditor Lisa Simmons reported to the County Council on Tuesday.

Total expenditures for May 2026 were $541,131.32, while total revenue came in at $235,280.53 — a shortfall of $305,850.79 for the month. The County General cash balance stood at $1,972,223.61 as of the end of May.

The council also approved an additional appropriation for sheriff's dispatch equipment. The amount was not stated during the meeting.

The nearly $2 million general fund balance faces several competing demands: the underground storage tank replacement project estimated at $375,000, the $381,000 paver acquisition split across two budget years, and ongoing IT costs that currently exceed $250,000 per year.
