The 60-second story

Jimmy Lytle represents District 1 on the Blackford Community School Board. He won the seat in November 2022 over Kyle J. Pitts and took office in January 2023. He did not file for re-election in 2026, so his seat is open; Pitts and Melinda Huber are competing for it. His term ends in December 2026.

On the school board he moved the June 2024 resolution transferring the former Babe Ruth field to the Hartford City Redevelopment Corp. (rescinded in April 2025), the October 2024 bond and additional appropriation resolutions, the $35,000 Meyer Najem pre-construction contract for the performing arts center in February 2025, and, in January 2026, a motion to keep board pay at $2,000 a year after the superintendent said it could legally rise to $4,725. He seconded the December 2024 secured-entry contract and the June 2025 performing arts center project resolution.

Voting record: Lytle is not recorded casting a 'no' vote in the school board minutes the district has posted, and no member voted no on any motion in that period. Minutes for his first year, 2023, and for February through May 2024 are not posted; of the 31 meetings with posted minutes since January 2024, the record shows him present at at least 24.

Before the school board, Lytle served District 3 on the Hartford City Common Council and was council president in 2020. He stepped down effective Nov. 2, 2021, citing the demands of raising three children and a move to a new home.
