The 60-second story

Courtney Lechien is the Republican trustee of Washington Township. She won the office in 2022, defeating Democratic incumbent Amy Payne, who had been trustee since 2015, and took office in January 2023. She was unopposed in the May 2026 primary and has no opponent in November. The township office is in her home.

A State Board of Accounts audit covering 2019 through 2023, issued in September 2024, reported that in 2023 the township's Fire Fighting fund was overspent by $28,248 and overdrawn by $50,566 at year's end, and that payroll taxes withheld in 2023 and the second half of 2022 had not been paid to the government. It also found a late 2023 board reorganization, a 2023 annual report that overstated spending by $8,601, and missing township-assistance forms. Most of the findings repeated those of the previous audit.
