Worker killed in reported crane collapse at Blackford County wind turbine construction site
A 22-year-old man from Michigan died Friday morning at a wind turbine construction site in Blackford County, in what emergency radio traffic described as a potential crane collapse.
The Blackford County Coroner's Office identified the worker as Hunter Torpey of Michigan.
Deputies and emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at 11:24 a.m. on Friday, July 10, according to the Blackford County Sheriff's Office. When they arrived, they found Torpey with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Initial emergency radio communications reported the incident as a crane collapse at the construction site. The Blackford County Sheriff's Office has not yet formally confirmed the cause of the accident.
The Blackford County Sheriff's Office and the Blackford County Coroner's Office are jointly investigating. The sheriff's office said there is no indication of foul play.
Torpey's family has been notified.
