West Commerce Leak and Staffing Shift Top Dunkirk Operations Review

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Dunkirk Board of Works meeting on September 28, 2026

A major West Commerce water leak, a department transfer, pickleball-court lighting progress, and delayed volunteer-fire payments all surfaced in Dunkirk's Sept. 28 operations discussion.

Board of Works members approved transferring an employee identified in the source as Chris from the water department to the street department. They then spent several minutes discussing whether enough budget existed and how much of that employee's pay should be charged to park work. The brief did not safely verify Chris's last name.

Officials also said a service-line leak on West Commerce had been repaired after the city was losing an estimated 50,000 to 55,000 gallons a day. In the parks discussion, Mayor Jack Robbins said the pickleball-court meter was installed and the lights appeared ready to go.

Clerk-Treasurer Kara Lowe said she still needed a current list of active and participating fire volunteers before this year's $500-per-volunteer payments could be processed. The transcript did not provide the number of eligible volunteers, so the total cost of that year's stipend payments was not stated in the brief.
