Water Meter Replacement Starts Late August — Montpelier Targets Thanksgiving Completion

Montpelier's water meter replacements will begin the last week of August or first week of September, with the installation crew expecting to complete all 600-plus meters and gateway systems in approximately 45 days — finishing by mid-October. Rick Miller of CDS Engineers provided the update at the August 12 Board of Public Works meeting.

The water treatment plant filter, currently in fabrication, will be installed in the latter half of October. Installation requires removing and replacing the roof of the treatment facility to swap the filter. The overall goal is to have everything completed before Thanksgiving.

The mayor signed two pay applications: Pay Application #1 for $110,837.54 and Pay Application #2 for $184,932.40, which includes stored materials — meters are already stored at the water plant. Both are being sent to the grant administrator.

New meters will give the city accurate readings of water usage, directly affecting billing accuracy and water loss calculations. Montpelier recently passed its water audit by staying under the 25% loss threshold, and accurate meters will help maintain that standard. The filter upgrade improves water treatment quality.
