Two Dunkirk Police Officers Begin Full-Time Duty; Third Hire Pending

Two police officers will begin full-time duty with the Dunkirk Police Department on August 12, bringing the department back to 60% staffing — a minimum threshold the city must maintain.
The first officer, Jacob, is already academy-trained and came from Union City and Winchester. He has been working part-time for Dunkirk and will transition to full-time. The second officer, Hunter, is completing a 40-hour training requirement and will also start full-time.
A third officer, Bryce Reynolds, has been hired but must leave another job before starting. Reynolds still needs to complete his 40-hour training. The city paid for academy training for two of the three officers.
This hiring push continues efforts discussed at prior meetings to address police staffing shortages in Dunkirk.
