Truck Spills Glass Across Dunkirk Streets, Cleanup Ongoing
From the Dunkirk Board of Works meeting on May 11, 2026
A truck spilled a large quantity of ground glass along Main Street, Highland Avenue, and SR 167, requiring multiple city departments to clean up what was described as the worst glass spill anyone could recall in Dunkirk.
The city's street sweeper could not handle the glass due to its weight. City employees swept it by hand using buckets and a backhoe. Cleanup is ongoing, with the street sweeper making follow-up passes. The glass appeared to come from the direction of the glass factory.
