Economic Development Director Warren Brown reported that the bid for the 1.3-to-1.4-mile trail extension has been awarded to Brooks Construction, which is already performing county road work in Blackford County. A pre-construction meeting is scheduled for next week, with completion expected before November 2026.

The trail will extend from the existing path on Park, cross a street, cut through farm fields, and pass through an industrial park. A manufacturing facility along the route is providing a free easement, and multiple property owners have donated easements, keeping the project affordable and within budget.

Future phases would extend the trail across the highway to Wilderness Park, which includes ball diamonds and a pool. The Community Foundation is funding the project.
