Stewart Brothers Water Line Wins Dunkirk Approval Up to $70,538
From the Dunkirk City Council meeting on September 28, 2026
Dunkirk approved up to $70,538 for a water-line project near the Stewart Brothers building after officials said the larger main they expected to find there does not exist.
Jesse Bivens told the council the city had a $48,538 quote to run a main line from Franklin to the corner where a hydrant and meter would be placed. He also said the city had already spent about $22,000-plus trying to locate the line officials thought was already in the area.
Mayor Jack Robbins said the new Stewart Brothers building wants an inch-and-a-half meter and that the existing three-quarter-inch line is not enough. Council then approved the larger combined amount, setting the project ceiling at up to $70,538.
The contractor behind the new quote was not clearly named in the transcript segment reviewed for the brief. Still, the vote commits the city to a sizable infrastructure expense connected to a private building's service needs after earlier exploratory work failed to find the main line officials expected.
