Blackford County Schools could use Rainy Day reserves for startup costs of a new special-education services organization, Superintendent Yencer said October 13, but no such expenditure was approved.

Yencer reported a $533,637 Rainy Day balance. He described a possible school vehicle as another future use of that reserve, without proposing a purchase amount.

Talks on a new interlocal organization, an arrangement between participating public entities, were continuing. Yencer expected a draft agreement by month’s end and possible approval in November. Participating entities, financial obligations and a startup budget were not presented.

The budget discussion also described a scheduled $21,000 district payment to the city for extending water service to the high school. Yencer said it was year five of a seven-year arrangement. That was a description of an existing obligation, not a new payment authorization.
