Six Days Until Anthem Drops Meridian — No Deal in Sight

Anthem's termination of its contract with Meridian Health Services takes effect July 25 — six days from now — with no reports of last-minute negotiations or regulatory intervention.

The split affects approximately 18,000 patients statewide across 87 locations. Sixty-eight percent of Meridian's patient base relies on Medicaid.

A recent closure compounds the pressure. IU Health shut down its addiction services in Muncie, leaving Meridian as the largest mental health and addiction treatment provider in the area. With fewer local alternatives, displaced patients face limited options.

Meridian's network includes its main Tillotson Avenue facility in Muncie, the Suzanne Gresham Center, school-based health clinics in Muncie Community Schools, the Women's Recovery Home, Meridian Rx pharmacies, and Walnut Commons for supported independent living.

Meridian's advocacy page at meridianhs.org/anthem remains unchanged from its July 18 status. No state legislators or FSSA officials have publicly intervened since the patient impact figures were reported.
