Shamrock Lakes Reviews Income-Tax Options

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Town of Shamrock Lakes Town Board meeting on September 17, 2026

Shamrock Lakes officials said Sept. 17 that a county-level review of local income-tax structure could more than double the town's annual share, though no change would take effect before 2029.

Board President Michael Nichols told the board the town now receives just over $32,000 a year from local income-tax distributions. He said a presentation from Accelerate Indiana Municipalities showed two possibilities now under discussion: one that would raise Shamrock Lakes' share to about $86,000 a year and another countywide flat-rate version that would bring in about $64,000.

Nichols said the review is part of a state-required process and that local governments are being asked for a decision framework by Nov. 2. He also said no adoption would happen until 2028, with implementation in 2029.

The board's discussion did not set a local tax rate. It marked the start of the town's public review of a countywide tax question that could change how much money flows to Shamrock Lakes each year.
