Blackford County Schools approved seven paid apprentices to assist classes October 13, with a projected district wage share of $3,185 after Ivy Tech reimbursements.

The hiring passed 5–0. Students in the Ivy Tech/MACC early-childhood apprenticeship program would work about six hours a week at BPS, with 170 paid hours planned through the second week of May.

The presentation described a starting hourly wage of $11, rising to $11.50 with progress or certification. Projected wages were $1,955 per student. Ivy Tech would reimburse $1,500 each, leaving the district to pay $455 per student, or $3,185 for seven. Those projections did not establish any additional payroll-related costs.

A presenter whose name was not established said ten students participated the previous year and pointed to former participant Sarah Yoho, now hired by the district, as an example of the program helping develop future staff. The seven current apprentices were not named during the presentation.
