One Cyclosporiasis Case Confirmed in Blackford County
The Indiana Department of Health has confirmed one case of cyclosporiasis in Blackford County as part of a statewide outbreak totaling 327 cases.
Cyclosporiasis is a parasitic intestinal infection that causes severe gastrointestinal illness. The CDC has linked the current national outbreak to shredded iceberg lettuce served at Taco Bell locations in five states, including Indiana. Previous outbreaks have also been traced to bagged salad mixes, fresh herbs such as cilantro and basil, and raspberries.
Neighboring counties have also reported cases. Delaware County has three confirmed cases, while Madison and Henry counties each have two. Hancock County has the highest local concentration with 11 cases.
