Technology restructuring and reduced staff positions lowered Blackford County Schools’ anticipated spending by more than $650,000 going into the calendar year, Superintendent Yencer reported October 13.

Yencer linked those changes to declining enrollment and revenue, saying they helped the district continue providing raises. He reported that the October student count was down 41 from the previous fall. A reliable current enrollment total was not established.

The presentation described state funding additions for special education, career and technical education, and high academic or dual-credit attainment.

Yencer said the district was not currently in a position where it needed a referendum for Operations funding. He warned that future property-tax changes could alter that assessment. The remarks were his financial assessment, not a commitment to rule out a future referendum.
