Montpelier's OCRA Fire Station Grant Denied — City Plans October Resubmission

Montpelier's OCRA grant application for a new fire station has been denied in the first round. Brad Neff announced the denial and said the city's grant writer confirmed Montpelier can resubmit in October for the second round.
"We've got everything all together... we can just resubmit it with some minor changes," Neff said. The resubmission will require City Council approval. The full application is already prepared, so only minor adjustments are needed before the October deadline.
The denial delays what would be a significant infrastructure investment for the volunteer fire department. An October resubmission, if approved, would push the project timeline further into 2027. Fire Chief King has also applied for a separate Blackford County Community Grant, with a decision expected September 21.
