Montpelier's Master Water Meter Has Never Been Calibrated in 15 Years

From the Montpelier Board of Works & Safety meeting on July 15, 2026

Water Superintendent Chase Perry identified a problem with the city's master water meter at the City Water Department: it is 15 years old and has never been calibrated. Previous staff believed the meter, which has no moving parts, did not need calibration. However, IDEM has asked about calibration during every inspection.

There is no bypass line to take the meter out of service, making traditional calibration impossible. Perry learned about an in-situ flow testing device that can test the meter without taking it offline and plans to contact the company for pricing and scheduling.
