Montpelier Wins $99,000 Federal Grant for Downtown Redevelopment

Montpelier has been awarded a $99,000 Rural Business Development Grant from USDA Rural Development, making it one of only six or seven Indiana communities to receive the award this cycle.
Dave Kieser of CDS Engineering, who wrote the grant application, announced the award at the August 10 Redevelopment Commission meeting. The city requested and received the maximum amount. The application was submitted June 30, 2026.
The federal funds are tied to the acquisition and improvement of 121 South Main Street — the former Clevinger building — as part of ongoing downtown redevelopment on South Main Street.
The RBDG program targets rural communities with populations under 50,000.
