Montpelier: Water Filter Project Change Order Adds $47,935 for Compliant Meters

By The Blackford Ledger The Blackford Ledger

From the Montpelier Board of Works meeting on June 9, 2026

The Montpelier Board of Works approved Change Order #1 on the city's water treatment plant filter replacement project, increasing the contract by $47,934.92.

The change was necessary because the originally specified meters were not compliant with Buy American, Build American (BABA) requirements — a condition of the OCRA grant funding the project. The city is switching to Neptune meters, a newer model of the system Montpelier already uses. Rick Miller of CDS Engineers presented the change order and confirmed no additional time is being added to the contract.

The substantial completion date remains March 21, 2027, with final completion set for May 20, 2027. However, the filter is arriving faster than expected — the contractor's working schedule showed substantial completion possibly as early as October 2026.

The board approved unanimously.
