Montpelier Street Department Tackles Park Upgrades, Pickleball Lights, Jamboree Prep

Street Department head Cameron Bonnowit reported a long list of completed and ongoing improvements at the August 12 Board of Works meeting. The gazebo has been painted white with new lighting installed. The Baldwin Park swing set was power washed, repainted, and fitted with new turnbuckles, chains, and latches after becoming "getting kind of unsafe."
New LED floodlights are coming to the pickleball courts, with AEP removing old pole lights and installing two LED floods per pole. The upgrade will allow evening play past 8 and 9 PM. All dugouts at the baseball diamonds have been painted, and solar lights have been installed on city entry signs at the four corners of town.
Preparations are underway for Jamboree, scheduled for September 3 through 6, with barricades and supplies being organized. Bleachers will be pulled in and refurbished this fall.
The compost site continues to have problems with illegal dumping — mattresses and trash left by non-residents. The department is considering installing a trail camera for enforcement.
