Montpelier Signs Water Filter Contract, Construction Starts May 22
From the Montpelier Board of Works & Safety meeting on May 13, 2026
Montpelier signed the contract for its water filter replacement project at the May 13 Board of Works meeting. Mayor Nef signed the notice of award, notice to proceed, and contract agreement with Ottenweller, the contractor selected for the work. Rick Miller from CDS Engineering presented the documents.
Construction begins with a pre-construction meeting on Friday, May 22. Ottenweller has 303 days from that date for substantial completion — approximately March 2027 — plus 60 additional days for final items like paint touch-ups and grass seeding.
The project includes filter replacement, a new roof at the water treatment plant, and replacement of all residential water meters with smart meters. The smart meters will allow residents to monitor their own water usage. Water Superintendent Chase Perry noted the meter replacements will be handled by subcontractors. The project also addresses a leaking filter at the plant's base.
The total project cost was previously reported at approximately $902,000, with an OCRA grant covering roughly $750,000.
Residents should expect construction activity at the water treatment plant beginning late May, with meter replacement work at individual homes to follow.
